GAS
TURBINES
Gas turbines are thermal energy conversion systems widely used in power generation and industrial applications. These engineering marvels play significant roles in electricity generation, aircraft propulsion, and industrial processes due to their high efficiency and rapid response capabilities.
What is a gas turbine?
Gas turbines are efficient and effective devices that play a significant role in modern energy generation and industrial applications. Their high energy efficiency, rapid response time, and environmentally friendly options make them indispensable in the energy sector.

Working Principle
Gas turbines operate as a type of thermal engine that converts thermal energy into mechanical energy. They essentially consist of three main components:
-
Compressor: In the first stage, it compresses air. This compressed air is then directed into the combustion chamber.
-
Combustion Chamber: The compressed air is mixed with fuel in the combustion chamber and ignited. This combustion process results in gases at high temperatures and high velocities.
-
Turbine: The high-temperature and high-velocity gases resulting from combustion rotate the turbine. The rotation of the turbine generates mechanical energy.
Applications
Electricity Generation: Gas turbines are used in power plants for electricity generation. Their ability for rapid start-up and shutdown allows them to quickly respond to fluctuations in electricity grids.
Aircraft Propulsion: Jet engines are a type of gas turbine. They are used to provide fast and reliable propulsion in aircraft.
Industrial Processes: Gas turbines are used for heat and power generation in industrial facilities. They are employed to increase energy efficiency and utilize process heat in these facilities.
Marine Transportation: They are used for power generation and propulsion purposes in large ships and marine vessels.
